A quick commute to downtown Atlanta on the Metropolitan Atlanta Rapid Transit Authority (MARTA) bus or by car makes this neighborhood a popular choice for potential residents. The area also features affordable properties, which is a plus for potential residents who want to stay close to the city without paying downtown housing prices.

Entertainment Options are Scarce Within the Suburbs of Betmar Lavilla

Betmar Village is a church housing community that caters to assisting seniors, church members and needy families in the area. It includes 1 bedroom apartments and is close to New White Springs Baptist Church. Renaissance at Park Place is an apartment complex located on Amal Drive near Maple Walk Park. It offers affordable housing to seniors, low-income families and residents with special needs who qualify for assistance.

The neighborhood is home to 1,436 residents who earn a median income of $27,143 annually. Only about 20 percent of households in the area have children and most residents have high school diplomas, have completed some college coursework or are currently enrolled in nearby colleges.

About 60 percent of residents rent properties in the area instead of owning. The current median monthly rental price in the area is $902. The types of rentals usually available include apartments, condos and townhomes. However, there are some places in the area that may be available for rent as well. Apartments include off-street parking, an on-site maintenance service and interior private washer and dryer units. There are several 3 bedroom floorplans available that usually rent for $724 to $1,136 monthly.

 

The 40 percent of residents who own properties in Betmar Lavilla mostly live in condos or townhomes within older communities that have been in the neighborhood for centuries. However, some new construction single family homes are currently being constructed on the south side of the neighborhood. The new neighborhood is located on Maple Walk Circle and pre-construction houses are selling for over $200k.

The median sales price for homes in the area is $59,500. However, the average home sales price is on the rise due to the new construction taking shape in the community. Park Place South is a condominium community that often has condos for sale. The two-story condos are usually priced between $80,000 and $160,000, depending on the size, features and upgrades of the specific unit. The complex includes a fitness facility, clubhouse and community pool.

Betmar Lavilla is home to condo and apartment complexes, so there are not many dining or shopping options within the perimeter of the neighborhood. Residents looking for shopping malls, grocery stores or restaurants usually visit nearby neighborhoods, such as Lakewood or Sylvan Hills. By traveling south on Route 41, residents can find dining options including Kemper’s Café and JJ Fish & Chicken. Freddie’s Groceries, Kroger and Piggly Wiggly can also be found by traveling south from Betmar Lavilla.

Entertainment options are also scarce within the suburbs of Betmar Lavilla. However, just south of the community lies the Lakewood Amphitheater, an outdoor music venue. The Villages at Carver Family YMCA is to the east of Betmar Lavilla and includes a fitness center and outdoor greenspace.

 

Since Betmar Lavilla itself is not home to many shopping, dining or entertainment options, most residents do not find the area very walkable. Pryor Road is the only road in the neighborhood equipped with a bike lane, so biking commuters are also not common. Residents usually drive their own vehicles to nearby establishments or to commute to work. They can also utilize public transportation to visit other neighborhoods or to head into the city.

The area is popular with senior residents because of the many MARTA bus stations available in the neighborhood. The MARTA bus stations available throughout Betmar Lavilla include:

  • Pryor Road at Ashwood Ave.
  • Ashwood Ave at Bond Drive.
  • Bond Drive at Giben Road.
  • Amal Drive at Bond Drive.
  • Amal Drive at Giben Road.
  • Pryor Road at Amal Drive.
  • Pryor Road at Claire Drive.

Passengers who visit these MARTA stations can catch the bus route 42. This route can take passengers south to nearby communities or north toward downtown Atlanta.

Betmar Lavilla properties are zoned for the Atlanta Public Schools district. Children in the area attend Slater Elementary School, Price Middle School and Carver High School. These public schools have low rankings and parents may opt to enroll children in local private schools, such as The Ron Clark Academy Private School or Romar Academy.

The Atlanta Fire Department Training Center is also located in Betmar Lavilla. Both Atlanta Metropolitan State College and Atlanta Technical College are directly to the northwest of the community as well. The suburbs of Betmar Lavilla displayed average crime rates when compared to other Atlanta neighborhoods. The property crime rate is slightly above average while the personal crime rate is ranked slightly below.
