Residents looking for cheap apartments and housing usually find properties in the area that are affordable, yet still close enough to the city of Atlanta so they easily commute to work each day. The neighborhood has a few shopping and dining options for local residents.

Pomona Park is Considered an Urban Area But is Only Home to 2,907 Residents

Vacant homes are hard to come by because Pomona Park is a small area. Residents looking for homes for sale may only find a few available listings at any given time. The median single family home sales price is $101,382. Only twelve percent of the residents in the area are homeowners. However, homes are more abundant within Pomona Park than apartment complexes.

Cheap apartments in Pomona Park are located just outside the neighborhood’s perimeter. The four most popular apartment complexes in the area include:

  • Brentwood Creek Apartments
  • Shamrock Gardens Apartments

The median monthly rental price for an apartment in Pomona Park is $734. Most apartment complexes offer 1 to 3 bedroom apartments and amenities, including fitness centers and community pools.

Pomona Park is considered an urban area but is only home to 2,907 residents. The median age for residents in the area is 41 and most have obtained their high school diplomas or have attended some community college courses. The median household income for residents living within the perimeter is $16,207 annually, much lower than the national average of $55,322. Only about one-quarter of Pomona Park residents have children.

 

There are several casual restaurants within the neighborhood. These options are mainly located on the northern end of the neighborhood and include:

  • American Deli: A fresh deli with sandwiches and other lunch selections.
  • ATL Wings: A quick and casual restaurant known for chicken wings and fried seafood.
  • S & S Cafeteria: An American-style restaurant with a rotating menu and home-style options.
  • Atlanta Dream Wings: A quick-service counter offering small plates and famous chicken wings.

Residents can travel into downtown Atlanta for finer dining or more diverse restaurant options.

Metropolitan Atlanta Rapid Transit Authority (MARTA) is a diverse bus and train system that links many neighborhoods throughout the area. There are three MARTA stations located in Pomona Park, including Lakewood/Ft. McPherson, East Point and Oakland City. Most residents must drive about five minutes to reach the stations. The beltline is a series of trails and streetcar transit lines that is currently in progress. It is also a transportation option for Pomona Park residents to commute into the city or to travel to local dining, shopping and entertainment establishments.

The neighborhood does not offer much walkability and most residents must use their own cars or public transportation to travel to establishments in the area. However, residents in local apartments may be close enough to shopping centers and restaurants to walk or ride bikes to visit.

 

A few local strip malls are available for shopping in the area. Campbellton Plaza includes a women’s clothing store, CVS pharmacy, beauty product shop and rental furniture store. The Stop and Shop supermarket is located on the southern end of the area for grocery shopping and the Headland Delowe Shopping Center is a short drive or bus ride away. This center is home to a nail spa, dollar store and pawn shop.

Most Pomona Park residents living in the suburbs or renting apartments in the area usually travel to downtown Atlanta for entertainment options. Residents may choose to enjoy the downtown Atlanta zoo, aquarium or museums.

The Andrew & Walter Young Family YMCA is located in Pomona Park and offers a large recreation center and indoor basketball court. Golfers can also enjoy the Alfred Tup Hulmes Golf Course, located on the north end of the neighborhood.

Residents may be drawn to purchasing real estate in Pomona Park because of its impressive crime and safety rating. It has one of the best crime ratings in Georgia state and is below the national average in the number of assault and robbery crimes. More property crimes than assault crimes were committed, but the number recorded was still lower than the national average.

Homes in Pomona Park are zoned for the Atlanta Public Schools district. Young children living in the area attend Venetian Hills Elementary School, Cascade Elementary School or Neighborhood Charter School. Middle school-aged children in Pomona Park attend Young Middle School, Brown Middle School or Kipp South Fulton Academy School. High school students go to Mays High School or Early College High School at Carver. Most public schools in the area have low rankings but charter schools are ranked higher. There are also many private schools in the perimeter of the neighborhood that children can attend, including Romar or Cameron Academy.
