There are three MARTA stations located in Pomona Park, including Lakewood/Ft. McPherson, East Point and Oakland City. Most residents must drive about five minutes to reach the stations. The beltline is a series of trails and streetcar transit lines that is currently in progress. It is also a transportation option for Pomona Park residents to commute into the city or to travel to local dining, shopping and entertainment establishments.
The neighborhood does not offer much walkability and most residents must use their own cars or public transportation to travel to establishments in the area. However, residents in local apartments may be close enough to shopping centers and restaurants to walk or ride bikes to visit.
A few local strip malls are available for shopping in the area. Campbellton Plaza includes a women’s clothing store, CVS pharmacy, beauty product shop and rental furniture store. The Stop and Shop supermarket is located on the southern end of the area for grocery shopping and the Headland Delowe Shopping Center is a short drive or bus ride away. This center is home to a nail spa, dollar store and pawn shop.
Most Pomona Park residents living in the suburbs or renting apartments in the area usually travel to downtown Atlanta for entertainment options. Residents may choose to enjoy the downtown Atlanta zoo, aquarium or museums.
The Andrew & Walter Young Family YMCA is located in Pomona Park and offers a large recreation center and indoor basketball court. Golfers can also enjoy the Alfred Tup Hulmes Golf Course, located on the north end of the neighborhood.
Residents may be drawn to purchasing real estate in Pomona Park because of its impressive crime and safety rating. It has one of the best crime ratings in Georgia state and is below the national average in the number of assault and robbery crimes. More property crimes than assault crimes were committed, but the number recorded was still lower than the national average.
Homes in Pomona Park are zoned for the Atlanta Public Schools district. Young children living in the area attend Venetian Hills Elementary School, Cascade Elementary School or Neighborhood Charter School. Middle school-aged children in Pomona Park attend Young Middle School, Brown Middle School or Kipp South Fulton Academy School. High school students go to Mays High School or Early College High School at Carver. Most public schools in the area have low rankings but charter schools are ranked higher. There are also many private schools in the perimeter of the neighborhood that children can attend, including Romar or Cameron Academy.
