Finding real estate in the trendy parts of Atlanta has become quite a burden on a potential buyer’s wallet. However, there are areas of Atlanta like Southwest Atlanta that offer far lower costs of living than popular neighborhoods like Buckhead or Inman Park. Up-and-coming neighborhoods along the Beltline, such as Southwest Atlanta, have become prevalent in Atlanta, as developers have been revitalizing and upgrading neighborhoods to attract more residents.
There are many different reasons why prospective residents love Southwest Atlanta and the surrounding properties. A few of the most common reasons include:

Despite the close proximity to Downtown Atlanta, the Southwest neighborhood features a more suburban feel. This makes the area more attractive for families, couples and even single professionals. With many buyers and renters flocking to this revitalized neighborhood, expect to see a rise in real estate prices over the next few years. However, prospective residents that buy or rent properties in the area now will be able to take advantage of the affordable prices currently on the market.
The percentage of renters and homeowners in Southwest Atlanta is evenly divided at 50 percent each. Renters can enjoy the fact that cheap apartments can be found in this neighborhood, with the median rental price being less than $1,000 a month, which is well below the median rental rate of other apartments close to the city. Additionally, a 2-bedroom condo can be found at around $145,000. There is also a variety of complexes in the area that feature amenities such as pet-friendly apartments, fitness facilities, and communal laundry rooms.
In trendy, or up-and-coming neighborhoods, it is usually difficult to find single-family homes for less than $200,000. However, Southwest Atlanta has plenty of houses around or under that price point. Prospective residents can find single family fixer-uppers with three bedrooms and three bathrooms for only around $170,000.
Part of what makes the Southwest Atlanta community such a great place to live is how close the neighborhood is to a variety of eateries. With an abundance of culinary options, a few of the favorites in the area include:

Having grocery and dining options in close proximity, makes Southwest Atlanta a convenient neighborhood to live in.
However, even with many stores and restaurants nearby, having a vehicle it is still an important aspect of living in Southwest Atlanta. While there are public transportation opportunities throughout the neighborhood, almost all errands do require having a car. Southwest Atlanta has a walking score of only 21 out of 100, a bike score of 17 out of 100 and a transit score of 41 out of 100. These low scores indicate that Southwest Atlanta is more of a car-dependent neighborhood, despite being relatively close to Metropolitan Atlanta Rapid Transit Authority (MARTA) stations.
One of the major draws for living in Southwest Atlanta is being close to the city center but also close to green spaces. Right along the perimeter of the community is the famed Cascade Springs Nature Preserve. This preserve not only has a significant amount of history for the state of Georgia during the Civil War, but it also features a natural spring that was said to have healing effects and curative powers. The preserve itself is one of the oldest forests still in existence within the city limits of Atlanta, as green space is often very difficult to find in large cities such as Atlanta.
Potential residents should also note that, although this neighborhood has a lower crime rate than other neighborhoods in Atlanta, the crime rate here is still slightly above the national average. However some rates, such as theft, are lower than the national average, which makes Southwest Atlanta a safer place to live than other areas around the city.
Those who own and or rent homes here can also feel safer sending their children to school in the area, as there are great charter and private school options that provide safe learning environments. One of the best schools is the Atlanta Neighborhood Charter School, which outranks all public school options in the area.
